28 Apr Fibromyalgia Vs Lupus
There is certainly a degree of overlap with the two conditions. However, there is a fair bit of debate out there about whether Fibromyalgia is an auto-immune condition, like Lupus. As yet, the jury is out. It is my opinion that because of the various bodily systems which are effected by Fibro, it is highly likely that there is either a hormonal cause or auto-immune condition. There are no diagnostic tests present for fibro as yet. Lupus can be detected and diagnosed with the help of blood test. These are completed in primary care with an auto-antibody screen. The majority of patients usually need input from rheumatology teams. Fibromyalgia can largely be managed in a primary care setting with appropriate trained GPs and physiotherapists.
